The combination of surrounding conditions, that make the use of Tribaloy’s® necessary are high temperatures up to 900°C and above, corrosive agents and intense mechanical loads and stresses. Those are found, i.e., in the Valvetrain, where hot, corrosive gases meet fast cyclic and frequent motion. The exhaust valves of internal combustion engines are subject not only to mechanical degradation from impact and sliding stresses, but also hot corrosion by the products of combustion.
To maintain efficient engine operation, it is vital that engine valves are protected against such wear. Stellite 6, Stellite F and Tribaloy® are most common alloys in the automotive valve industry. More of our components are commonly found in Turbochargers, where actuators move and steer precisely, in the exhaust tract and exhaust gas recirculation systems (EGR). In all these areas, from combustion engine until exhaust pipe, you can find castings as valve seat rings, as Actuator rods or bushings and coatings on shafts, valves and pistons. Shafts and valves are mainly coated with Stellite 6, Stellite F and T-800 alloys using both, PTA or HVOF processes, and they run against or in rings and bushings made out of T-400 in investment or resin shell casting processes.
Our alloys are employed for the above applications and in those environments because they provide secure durability for components that have to function under extreme conditions for lifetime and prevent costly rework or substitution. This is one of the key the reason why most components appear in Trucks, light and heavy duty commercial vehicles with guaranteed and expected mileage above the million.
